| I was so surprised
when I got a phone call and heard, "Hey, Lottie, what are you doing?". I
thought I would have a heart attack when I heard his voice!! Then, I got
a letter asking me to come out to California. To me, that seemed a million
miles away! I said it was much too expensive, and he answered, "Am I asking
you to pay for it?" He was joking and carrying on, as though nothing had
happened over all those years. (Just a couple of Oscars). He wanted
to know what I was doing... and the rest of the family. |

| I told him Chuck was
in college, (my father), after being discharged from the Navy, (1946), Doris
was in New York City, at nursing school, Dick was in the Navy, Carol was
home, still in school. He wanted to talk to all of them. "They've got to
come out and see me." That's how Doris started planning to go to California,
to see him. She had such a good time, and met several movie stars. She also
met Jack Kenyon from Scotia out there, and a few years later they were married.

I met Eddie in New
York when they were working on "The Greatest Show on Earth". I took the
train to NYC, and got a cab to the hotel, where he met me. In the hotel
room, he told me he had to go out for awhile. He said to answer the phone
if it rang, and tell them I was his kid sister. Then to take a cab at
a certain time and come in a particular door, and to tell the doorman
who you are, and want to be seated in Mr. DeMille's box.
The phone
call was Russ Morgan, the orchestra leader. I was surprised, but we talked
for a while. I told him it was time to call a cab, to go to Cecil B. DeMille's
box. I got to the building and met Mr. DeMille. Eddie came over and gave
me a hug.
